The Gulangyu Island is known as the "Garden in the Sea". During the Ming Dynasty, it got its name (which means "Drum Wave Island" in Chinese) as the sound of wave breaking on a cave on the island in the southwest sounds like drum beat when the tide rises. The Island is home to Longtou Mountain, Shengqi Mountain and Jimu Mountain, with rolling hills, clear waters, white clouds and lush trees adding radiance to each other, giving an impression of neatness and tranquility. Many buildings with various architectural styles at home and abroad are well preserved on the island, giving it a reputation of "China's Museum of Architecture".
