The Three Gorges Family Scenic Area is located in Xiling Gorge, the most fantastic and magnificent of the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River. It is known for its "sharp bends, grotesque rocks, tranquil valleys, unique caves and sweet springs". Here, the traditional "Piled Dwellings" (diaojiaolou) are scattered between lush mountains and clear waters, the ancient sailboats and boats with dark awnings can be seen moored in the rivers. The fishermen cast their nets leisurely, and the girls by the stream wash their clothes with wooden sticks. The customs that have been passed down from generation to generation over thousands of years reflect the rusticity of this place and the hospitality of the local people.
